Home care margin calculator

Where is your margin going?

Small losses add up: overtime, cancelled visits, unbilled minutes. Put in your own figures to see what they cost, your real margin, and what to fix first. Nothing you type is sent or stored.

An estimate only, based on the figures you enter. The starting numbers are examples, not industry benchmarks. Some lines can overlap, such as overruns and late clock-outs. This isn’t financial, award or legal advice, so check pay rates and rules with your own adviser.

How the margin calculator works

It builds a simple yearly picture of your business, then adds up seven common places where margin slips away, using your own figures.

  1. Enter your hours, charge rate, crew pay and running costs.
  2. Open each leak and replace the example figures with yours.
  3. See your margin today and against your target.
  4. Move the slider to see what fixing part of it would do, and start with the top two.

Common questions

What is margin leakage in a home care business?

It is money earned or paid out that never reaches your profit: overtime that better rosters could avoid, cancelled visits you can’t refill, visits that run over, casual loading, late clock-outs, unbilled travel and unpaid bills.

How do I calculate my margin?

Take your yearly income, subtract crew costs, other running costs and leaks, then divide what is left by your income. For example, $100,000 left from $1,000,000 of income is a 10% margin.

What should I fix first?

Usually the biggest line. The calculator ranks your leaks and names the top two, so you can start where the money is.

Does this work for NDIS and funded aged care?

Yes. Choose what you deliver and the last line changes to rejected claims. The figures are yours to set, and pay rates and funding rules should be checked with your own adviser.
